After receiving a final tally from the bank earlier this week, The Muscular Dystrophy Association of Colorado announced that the Colorado Springs Professional Firefighters Association Local #5 and the Colorado Springs Fire Department raised $119,924 for the 2015 Fill the Boot Campaign! Colorado Springs holds the record for the highest amount raised in the State set in 2008 with $153,000. This year we made #2 in the state behind DenverFire. This is no small feat considering that the Department’s next closest competitor is more than 5,000 members larger than the Colorado Springs Fire Department.
IAFF Local 5 former President Jeremy Kroto once stated, “We especially want to thank the citizens of our great community that donated selflessly to make this years’ campaign such a success! Without their generosity we could not have raised what we did and we know it will make such a difference in the lives of our Southern Colorado families that are affected by muscular disease”.
As MDA’s largest national sponsor, the IAFF has raised nearly $300 million since the partnership began in 1954. These funds have fueled MDA’s worldwide research program seeking treatments and cures for more than 40 forms of neuromuscular disease. In addition, IAFF fundraisers help make possible a nationwide network of specialized medical clinics, financial assistance with certain types of expensive assistive equipment, support groups, informative publications and, of course, accessible summer camp for kids.
