Local 5 Update 7-6-2015 Membership, Last week on the 30th, VP Kunze and I met with Mayor Suthers, Chief of Staff Jeff Green, and Kara Skinner. We talked about the future growth and needs of the Fire Department and our compensation and benefit package. The Mayor has asked to meet with us on at least a quarterly basis and wants Local 5 to have representation on various committees within the city that pertains to issues that will affect our members and department. August 15 we will be hosting another Fire Ops 101 at the FDC. VP Kurtz is the lead and will be coordinating the logistics. We will be seeking volunteers for each different evolution. If you are interested please contact VP Kurtz. The evolutions will be fire attack, vehicle extrication, cardiac arrest scenario, wildland evolution, and search and rescue. For those who have never been a part of this, it is our platform to educate decision makers of our staffing levels and needs, deployment model, and a specific look at the services we provide. This week the General President Schaitberger, and his staff, along with the IAFF Honor Guard Commanders will be coming out to see the Memorial and begin planning the new service. There will be 316 names placed in the memorial this year which does not include the make-up names from 1918 to 1976. We still do not have any dates for the Recommissioning Ceremony or the Make-up Ceremony. The results from the hour for hour acting pay has been presented to Chief Riley. We hope to see those results soon. Tomorrow at the Civil Service Meeting, the Fire Department will be asking for a civil service rule change for minimum qualifications to apply for the CSFD. The change is for a minimum requirement for them to apply to our job having already completed the Fire Team written test. The CSFD is going to move towards using National Testing Network to administer our written test. Candidates will test at testing centers across the United States. Pikes Peak Community College will be a testing sight and is a major reason why the CSFD is able to consider this process. CSFD will then be able to pull the top candidates based on our criteria. Local 5 has been presented the information and we will speak in favor of the proposal at Civil Service. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. August 1st will be our 3rd Annual Golf Tournament at Pine Creek. We still have room for your foursome so please sign-up. Thank you for reading and please contact me anytime if you have questions. Fraternally, Justin Koch, President Local 5 |
